Pyramid of Kukulkan, Chichen Itza

Towering over the ancient city of Chichen Itza at 24 meters high is the
Pyramid of Kukulkan, the god-man known to the Toltecs and Aztecs
as Quetzalcoatl or "Plumed Serpent". The Spanish called it El Castillo.
This step-pryamid is designed as a calendar in stone. Each of the four sides
have 91 steps, including the top this equals 365 steps the number of days
in a calendar year or Haab in Mayan. The Maya are obsessed with the
cycles of Time; the blood of humans sacrificed at the top of Kukulkan
being deemed neccessary to insure the continuation and renewal
of the World
.
